On
Saturday October 1st, the villages and playing fields of Paintball Park
Memphis were transformed into the European Battlefront of World War II.
No part of Paintball Park was spared from the Mayhem, as the Allies fought
the Germans across the map in their quest for world domination!
Battlefront
Europe, our third scenario game of 2005, relived a few of the most
significant battles from the Great War. Over 100 players enlisted with
their friends and took part in specialized missions and campaigns, defended
themselves from an armored tank, and played alongside new and experienced
players alike.

Game 1: The Maginot Line
The German SS had to cross the line that was
supposed to be impenetrable.
Fighting
downhill, the SS was successful in capturing most of the front
positions, but the French troops dug into their rear
fortifications and refused to give ground. Score:
Allies=50 Axis=20

Game 2: The North Afrikan Campaign
The
petrol fields of Libya were vital to the Nazi war effort.
General Erwin Rommel and his 15th Panzer Division protected the
supply road to the port town of Tripoli, from where the oil was
being shipped to Germany.
The German convoy used an old green truck that could only
transport from one refinery at a time. Successfully hauling
a cargo of gasoline from a refinery to Tripoli earned 15 points
(60 possible). To stop this, British forces were moved up
the coast to engage the Desert Fox in an effort to shut down the
supply line and stop shipments. But the Desert Fox and his
elite (aka Bionic Possums) delivered three of four petrol
shipments.
Meanwhile, the US 101st Airborne was dropped behind enemy lines to
target the 4 refineries in Libya. Armed with explosives,
their orders were to take out each target. But this was not
to be one of the Allies finer moments, for the Germans were quick
to close off the only approach to the oilfields. Having
decided the best defense would be a good offense, they moved
against the 101st and pinned them into the corner for the entire
2nd game.

Allies=0 Axis=45

Game 3: Invasion of Sicily
The
Allies initiated a full-scale landing against
a large deployment of hardened SS troops stationed in Sicily.
The
low-lying corner which the Germans defended is strategically
difficult to hold. A Panzer Division along the front
temporarily repelled the initial onslaught, however the tank was
hit by an anti tank weapon 10 minutes into the game, and removed
from the battlefield
And in a remote corner of the battlefield, an armed-and-dangerous
(and disoriented) Albert Einstein hid in a tower, taking potshots
at whomever approached. Using specially-colored tranquilizer
dart paintballs, the Germans tagged the Professor and were about
to take him back to Berlin to build atomic weaponry. But an
Allied marksman not taking any chances took out the doctor and his
Axis kidnappers.
In game Three the German command was faced with a difficult
decision; stay and defend Sicily for 100 points, OR evacuate
troops to the Italian peninsula and secure the flag there for 50
points.
The Germans decided to exercise the more difficult option, and convincingly
beat the odds, holding the allies at bay.
Score:
Allies=0 Axis=100

Game 4: Omaha Beach
A
small number of Germans manned a stretched defensive line to
resist the massive Allied invasion, fighting to hold their bunkers
until reinforcements arrive. American troops braved the open
ground to take the hilltop fortifications. Capture of the
front line flags allowed the Allies to land their armored division
(the tank).
SS
troops raced to fortify the coastline and stop the invasion.
However the 101st Airborne was dropped inland to slow the progress
of reinforcements.
Having sensed an imbalance in teams, some key players were moved
to the Allies, but the player shift was probably an
overcompensation. The Allies nearly swept Game Four, with
one Axis flag still standing.
Score:
Allies=90 Axis=10

Game 5: Battle of the Bulge
The
101st started the game trapped in the city of Bastogne, with SS
troops closing the gap from either side. Cut off from the
rest of the Allies, they could not survive long unless help
arrived.
Allied forces trying to aid the 101st had to cross though a line
of snipers and small units of resistance along the way.
Punishment. That is the word which best describes the
ordeal the 101st suffered to maintain possession of the town hall
building in Bastogne (Dodge City). Surrounded the building
on three sides, players on the Axis team volleyed continuous
streams of paintballs into every window and door, literally pummeling
the occupants, who had a medic present that could resurrect
them. Enduring the pain, they meticulously shifted back and
forth through the building, repeatedly being respawned only to be
pounded again. Just
when things were looking impossible, the tank arrived, and
reinforcements began trickling into the city from the north
side. The 101st regrouped, and retook the city for the game
win. Score:
Allies=50 Axis=0 Total
For the Game: Allies=190 Axis=165
